BOY SCOUTS’ ASSOCIATION

ACTIVITIES REVIEWED The annual report of the North Otago Boy Scouts' Association records steady progress in scouting and cubbing throughout the district during the year. Camping activities had been curtailed to some extent during the year owing to epidemics, but troops had held camps on Labour Day week-end and at Easter. A combined camp had been held on the racecourse on the King's Birthday weekend, with Scouters from Otago and North Otago attending. At the invitation of the R.S.A., Scout troops took part in the Anzac Day parade. The Columba Scout troop had been successful in winning the R.S.A. banner for proficiency in first-aid. The sum of £lls 8s Id had been collected, in conjunction with the Girl Guides, in a street day for U.N.R.R.A. in November. During the year a visit had been paid to the district by the Dominion Headquarters Commissioner for Rover Scouts, Mr A. Campbell Clark, accompanied by Commissioner Southern who had addressed a representative meeting of interested Scouters and friends in connection with Rover Scouts. the annual census, taken on June 30, showed an active membership of 464 Scouts and Cubs, and 139 committee personnel and examiners. The gift of a permant camp site on the bank of the Kakanul River at Maruakoa was made by Mr W. M. Austin, and relatives of ex-Scouts and Scouters in the district decided to contribute to the cost of a memorial hut to be erected on the site.
