In Victoria The Royhl Agricultural Society of Victoria recently refused an offer from the Victorian Trotting and Racing Association to lease the Melbourne Show Grounds at £3OOO a year, and in addition to spend £25,000 on improvements. The Agricultural Society, in turning down the offer, also decided to approach the Victorian Government to place the control of trotting under the society. This request in connection with the control of trotting was originally made by the Metropolitan and Country Trotting Associations of Victoria. Moneymate Moneymate, the winner of a double at the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting, ran 11 times without a win prior to her dual success at Timaru. She is a six-year-old mare by Worthy Bond—Lovematch, by Four Chimes— Bay Belle, by King Harold—Black Bess, by Mainsail who is returned in the Trotting Stud Book as a thoroughbred. King Harold was bred in Australia and had thoroughbred blood in his pedigree. He raced and won under the name of Trust prior to going ,to the stud at Tapanui. Four Chimes was bred by the Allendale Stock Farm, and was got by Abbey Bells from F_ B„ by Blackwood Abdallah —Stockings, whose grandsire and grand-dam were F B. was a New Zea-land-bred mare' who became a member of the Allendale Stock Farm at its formation, when Abbey Bells and Marvin Wilkes, together with a very select band of mares, were imported from the United States by Messrs Allen and George Tye. Mr A. Robertson, brother to L. Robertson, the prominent Victorian trainer, selected the stock to form the stud.
