ZINGARI EXTENDS SOUTHERN

EASY WIN FOR PIRATES A

The leading team, Southern, just managed to stave off a strong challenge from Zingari-Richmond when the Otago Rugby Football Union’s senior competition was continued on Saturday in ideal playing conditions. The match attracted a crowd of, about 4000 to Carisbrook, but the display provided fell far below - what was expected of teams at the top of the ladder, and the only compensation was the close finish, a field goal five minutes from time enabling Southern to win by 4 points to 3. In the early match at Carisbrook Pirates A easily defeated Union, and the winners gave a bright display. The Pirates B team provided something in the nature of a surprise with a fairly decisive win over University B, which has been showing improvement lately. Kaikorai won a lively game against Training College, and wins were also recorded by Dunedin and Port Chalmers.
