DOUBLE TRAGEDY

ELDERLY COUPLE’S DEATH (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 7. A double tragedy was revealed at 6 Victoria street, Lower Hutt, on Saturday afternoon, when the police, acting on information supplied, entered a house and found a woman in a bedroom with her throat cut and a man hanging by the neck from a rope attached to a trellis spanning the hallway. A chair was beside the suspended body. Both persons were dead. They were Charles Alfred Strong and his wife, Agnes Winifred Strong, both, aged 70 years. A post-mortem was held to-day and an inquest will profy ably be held on' Monday week. Both the Strongs were respected citizens, The husband retired from his employment in the railway workshops four years ago. Out of their savings the couple, who were thrifty, had made the property their own and also had a motor car. They have a family of three, all of whom are married. The old people lived alone. The police believe that they had been dead some days. ■
