WAIKOUAITI ROADS

Sir, —As a ratepayer in the Waikouaiti County I would draw attention to the neglected and dangerous condition to which some of the district roads have been allowed to drift. I think ratepayers are entitled to expect better service than we have received. During recent years the roads have been starved of either screenings or grave], and the gorse has been allowed to overlap in some places to the centre of the road, making travelling in cars' extremely dangerous It would be interesting to know who would be held responsible if an accident happened owing to the negligence of local authority. Between Palmerston and Dunedin there are thousands of acres covered in gorse, broom and ragwort. There is scope for the Farmers’ Union to do something useful instead of wasting time over trivjal matters.—l am, etc., Ratepayer.
