DRAMATIC MOVE

QUEENSLAND STRIKF SECRET BALLOT CANCELLED MEN ORDERED TO RESUME (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) BRISBANE, July 7 After the State Government’s dramatic midnight decision to cancel the meat strike ballot and order the works to reopen and the men to resume work by July 12, the public are speculating on whether the coal miners will return to work. The Government’s decision followed a request from the Meat Union and the ballot was cancelled owing to confusion caused by the duplication of names. The Industrial Court sent out 2000 more ballot papers than the union claims as members.

The coal miners, who are out in sympathy with the meat strikers, described the union request to the Government as treacherous and traitorous, and this

led to doubts about the miners’ resuming. Until coal is being produced again the power and light restrictions, which have thrown 50.000 out of worn will continue.
