WRESTLING

CLAYBOURNE WINS EXCITING BOUT (P.A.) y AUCKLAND, July 7. Fast and clever wrestling, together with showmanship of the highest order, made the professional heavy-weight contest between Jack Claybourne, 16st 111 b, and “ Lofty ” Blomfield, 16st 91b, very pleasing to a large attendance on Saturday night. Claybourne won on points after each had secured a fall, Claybourne with a body press following a drop kick in the third round, and Blomfield a submission fall with an octopus clamp in the sixth. Blomfield tried hard to gain the decision with another octopus clamp in the final round, but Claybourne proved too wary. The referee’s decision met with a mixed reception from the capacity house.
