VALUABLE SERVICE

TRIBUTE BY DEPUTY MAYOR "i We have received from the Deputy Mayor (Cr J. McCrae)* in the absence of the Mayor, this tribute: “ Dunedin citizens will learn with profound sorrow of the passing of one who has rendered valuable service to the whole of New Zealand. Sir James Hutchison’s interests extended beyond his own particular work of journalism, and every movement for the good of New Zealand had his whole-nearted support. He had an extensive knowledge of social and political questions, which eminently fitted him for the post he held with such distinction. Sir James was of a retiring and reserved disposition, but his many friends who got to know' him intimately valued his friendship.

“His death will be mourned by his large circle of friends in New Zealand. I am sure Dunedin citizens will join with me in extending to Lady Hutchison and the family our sincere sympathy.”
