SOCCER AT MOSGIEL

Sir,—According to the report of the Mosglel-Caversham Soccer match in last Monday’s Otago Daily Times there appears to be rather a false impression regarding the true condition of the Mosgiel ground. This field is in perfect winter condition and absolutely free from the mud which allegedly “ clogged players’ boots and caused studs to have little effect.” In fact, the referee of the match stated at the time that this was one of the best grounds he had been on this season. Your paper's remarks about the score flattering Mosgiel I will pass over. It is either a clue as to where your reporter's sympathies really lie. or it indicates that he is someone who was never near the ground last Saturday. I trust this will help to clarify, in some small way, an extremely false impression which has been in existence for many seasons.—l am, etc., A. McCloy, president, Mosgiel A.F.C. Mosgiel. June 11.

Sir,—l was very much surprised to read in Monday morning’s paper the report of the Caversham v. Mosgiel Soccer match at Mosgiel. It is unjust and misleading to say that the ground was heavy. About two-fifths of the ground is bare of grass, hence the cause of that part being treacherous, but the remainder was in excellent order. Miskicking was caused by the players having the sun in their faces and not clogged boots. I hope that both teams never have to play in worse conditions.—l am, etc., Wull Fyfe. Mosgiel, June 10.
