UNIVERSITY TEAMS MEET COMFORTABLE WIN FOR A’s Playing on a heavy ground and in intermittent rain and hail storms, University A yesterday defeated University B by 18 points to nil in the Rugby football match at the University Oval, the match having been held over from the University vacation. The University B forwards held their opponents for the greater part of the first half, during which it was almost impossible to pick up the ball. Towards the end of the spell, lmwever, the overhead conditions improved, and T. F. C. Geary and G. Moore combined in passing which nearlv brought a try. There was no score’at hall time. In the second half the A forwards, packing tightly and keeping the ball at their feet, took charge, and were attacking for most of the spell. The backs handled the greasv ball surprisingly well, and P. A. Ongley and Geary combined well close to the scrum. Geary being the soundest back on the side. T. Kawe played a very solid game at full-back. K. J. O’Connor was the A’s best forward. and R. L. Sinclair was also prominent in the tight and the loose. R, J. Cantwell, A. Seeley, and H. M. Harding were a solid trio in the B team’s pack. The backs did not have many chances, but J. Gwynne (wing) made several strong runs, one of which took him to the full-back before the greasy going beat him. N. Schofield and I. Isdale both defended well.. Tries were scored for the A’s by Ongley, Geary. E. J. Peterson, and O’Connor. One try was converted by H. F. Drake, and Kawe kicked a field goal from just inside the twenty-five. Mr J.
