TROTTING NOTES
By Sentinel June 15 .. .. Ashburton T.C. Jottings Sir Hall is an improving pacer who should race prominently from the limit mark in the two trotting events at Oamaru on Saturday. The Grattan Loyal colt Scholarship is reported to be showing promise in his work, and it is unlikely that he will be an outsider at Oamaru on Saturday. He is a three-year-old from Oxford Queen, and is trained by R Humphreys. At the Oamaru meeting last month Gloxiana finished third to Donald Dinnie and Travis Boy in a division of the Trial Handicap after making a slow beginning. The U. Scott mare is engaged in the two events at Oamaru.
The Half-hopple The half-hopple was first used over half a century ago at Tahuna Park. It consisted of loops on each foreleg, connected with a line running through a ring fastened to the back of a noseband. It was used by the late Mr W. McKewen when he was training at Tahuna Park. Another short-lived invention tried at Tahuna Park was a one-wheel sulky, with the driver sitting over the wheel.
