NOTES FROM RICCARTON
NOVICES FOR ASHBURTON (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, June 11. C. G. Humphries has advanced his plans for the trip to Melbourne with the steeplechaser Gay Fort and tin two-year-old Royal Tan. The steame: by which he hopes to travel is nov in Wellington and is expected to leave for Australia in about a fortnight. In the meantime the two horses have beer, nominated for Ashburton, and will race there next week if it can be done without interfering with the plans for the Australian trip. Prince Dolomite and Bravura set out to jump three fences. The former got tangled up in the wing of the first and fell. When tried again he jumper: all right over this fence and the double, but Bravura fell at the second of the double.
Fluorescent gave a mixed display over a round of the fences, baulking and running off at more than one of the obstacles. •
All Quality, Altruist and Denary are in both the hack races at Oamaru, and the plans for them have not been completed. The novices who will be seen at the Ashburton meeting next week will include Blue Hussar, a well-grown two-year-old by Battle Song from Blue Bouquet, by My osotis—Royal Baby. He was bred by Dr M. G. Louisson, but he was sold a few months ago to a patron of R. Register's stable, as he was difficult to manage. He has not had a race yet. E. J. Jennings has an addition to his team, having taken over Night Pal. He seems quite sound, and, having had a few weeks of exercise on the roads, he will be given another trial as a jumper. Test Pilot was nominated for both the jumping races at Ashburton, and his programme has not been settled.
