ROAD TRANSPORT
STATE CONTROL DISCUSSED OVERLOADING TO CEASE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 11. State control of all road transport was discussed at the national conference of the New Zealand Drivers’ Federation in Wellington yesterday. The secretary, Mr F. C. Allerby, later reported that full consideration had been given to the proposals, but that no decisions had been taken. Definite action against the overloading of buses and commercial vehicles was promised by the Commissioner of Transport, Mr G. L. Laurenson, who explained to the conference that during the transition to peace-time conditions there had to be some give and take, but the Transport Department was definite in its decision that action would be taken against excessive overloading.
