WHEAT FOR DOG BISCUITS

ALLEGATIONS IN PARLIAMENT CANBERRA, Mar. 29. Allegations that manufacturers of dog biscuits had been given preference in the use of wheat over the needs of the people in famished countries was made by Mr J. P. Abbott (Country Party) in the House of Representatives last night. Speaking on the adjournment, Mr Abbott said that from evidence in his possesion it appeared that the Minister of Commerce and Agriculture, Mr Scully, had given preference to manufacturers of dog biscuits, essentially to feed racing greyhounds. The New South Wales superintendent of the Wheat Board had circularised the wheat trade advising allocation committees of the direction in which wheat should be supplied for feed purposes to livestock, pigs, and poultry only. A later circular stated that the Minister had made available 50,000 bushels of wheat to manufacture dog biscuits. The complaint is being examined.
