CANTERBURY LEADS OTAGO
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 29. On rain-sodden courts which placed the visitors, who are mostly hard-gourt . players, at a serious disadvantage, the ' Canterbury women’s lawn tennis team gained a lead of five matches to one against Otago to-day. Canterbury is defending the Nunneley casket at Wilding Park for the second time since winning it from Wellington last month. Results: Singles.—Mrs K. Hart (Canterbury) beat 'Miss M. Kerr 6—l, 6—2; Mrs C. J. Rawlinson (Otago) beat Mrs I. Hatherley 6—2. 6—4; Miss M. F. Burrell (Canterbury) beat Miss L. Foote 6—l, 6—2; Mrs D. Donnithorne (Canterbury) beat Miss M. Robertson 7—5, 6—4. Doubles.—Mesdahies Hart and Hatherley (Canterbury) beat Misses Robertson arid Foote 6—3, 6—l; Mrs Donnithorne and Miss Burrell (Canterbury) beat Mrs Rawlinson and Miss Kerr 6—4. 6—o.
