(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, Mar. 27. The J. A. Rank Organisation in London has confirmed the report that it had purchased a half-share in New Zealand's biggest circuit, Kerridge Cinemas, says the Daily Telegraph. Its representatives would join the board, but no other change in management was contemplated.
It is also reported that the Rank Group has acquired large interests in the Australian film industry. Extraordinary, general meetings of shareholders of West’s, Ltd., Greater J. D. Williams’ Amusement Co., Ltd., Spencers Pictures, Ltd., and Amalgamated Pictures, Ltd., were held on Monday. The directors of the companies were authorised to complete arrangements by which the Rank Group becomes interested as equal shareholders with these four companies in Greater Union Theatres Pty., Ltd. Over £1,000,000, Australian currency, is involved in the transactions.
