COLLIER IMMOBILISED
REFUSAL TO MAN KAIMAI (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 28. Members of the Seamen’s Union still refuse to offer for engagement when efforts are made to man the Union Company’s collier Kaimai, which has been idle in Wellington since Monday. Inquiries have failed to disclose any prospect of an early settlement of the dispute between the engineers and the firemen which has been responsible for the present trouble. Reports indicate that there is an acute shortage of coal in the North Island, and that the delay to the Kaimai, which is normally an important factor in maintaining regular shipments to Wellington, is further jeopardising the position.
