ACCOUNTS CRITICISED

UNRELIABLE ASPECTS (Rec. 0.30 am.) CANBERRA, Mar. 27. The operations of the commission are criticised by the Commonwealth Audi-tor-general, Mr R. Abercrombie, who has refused to certify its accounts and balance sheets. “ They cannot be certified as a true and complete reflex of the commission’s business,” he declares in a report tabled in the House of Representatives. Unreliable aspects of the accounts, he said, included interrupted and irreconcilable stock records and discrepancies for which no satisfactory explanation had been forthcoming. The auditors found that goods had been delivered from army stores direct to traders and buyers in circumstances in which the commission’s interests had not been protected.
