NEW ZEALAND AIRMEN
STILL ON AIRCRAFT CARRIER (Rec. 11 p.m.) KURE, Mar. 25. Personnel of the New Zealand component of the Commonwealth Air Force are still on board the aircraft carrier Glory in Kure harbour. They expect to begin discharge of about half of the aircraft on to barges to-morrow. These will be ferried to Iwakuni, leaving the barges available to ferry off the remaining aircraft when the carrier moves down the coast and anchors offshore from Iwakuni. Some of the personnel will move south by train from Kure, others will make the comparatively short trip aboard the barges with the aircraft, and the remainder will travel down with the Glory. Meantime the personnel aboard the ship are getting a seaward view of Kure and the inland sea and are distinctly impressed as the weather suddenly changed to warm late spring sunshine. Japanese Callousness This morning they had a somewhat macabre entertainment as a barge which was being loaded aboard the ancient Russo-Japanese War cruiser Yakamo broke away from its davits and squashed several luckless Japanese on the deck of the ship. The Japanese, who are unemotional types, swabbed the decks and carried on. The Yakamo, which is at present engaged in repatriation tasks, is moored adjacent to the Glory.
