UNREGISTERED FIREARM
YOUNG MAN CHARGED In the City Police Court yesterday, before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., a young married man was charged with possessing a firearm otherwise than for a lawful purpose, that being other than a licensed dealer, he unlawfully had in his possession an unregistered firearm, and similarly that he procured possession of a firearm without a permit.—Senior Sergeant H. Hogg asked for a remand for a week, stating that the accused had been arrested only that morning and the inquiries were not yet complete. Mr J. P. Ward, who appeared for the accused, said that the matter was exclusively “ a little family boil over.” Counsel applied for suppression- of the name until the facts were gone into. The accused was remanded until February 23. Bail was allowed in the accused’s own recognisance of £SO and one surety of £SO, on the first charge, and the others were adjourned. An order was made prohibiting publication of the name until the facts were gone into.
