SHIPPING LOSSES
PLANS FOR REPLACEMENT COMPANIES SERVING DOMINION (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 14. No time is being wasted by British shipping companies serving New Zealand in beginning to replace their war losses, stated Mr T. F. Tallents, chairman and managing director of the New Zealand Shipping Company and the Federal Steam Navigation Company, London, in an interview prior to his departure from Auckland to Sydney. The two companies have building or on order nine ships. One of the vessels is a passenger and cargo ship to replace the Rangitane, and its keel will be laid down at Vickers Armstrong’s yards in December for delivery early in 1948. The remaining eight are all refrigerated cargo ships.
