THREAT TO BLOW UP LINER

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS TAKEN LONDON, Feb. 13. After receipt last evening of news in an anonymous letter that the Union Castle liner, Carnarvon Castle, would be set. on fire and blown up at Southampton, a special guard was mounted over the vessel, with a police guard aboard all night, and the ship’s firewatchers doubled. A flrefloat was also moored nearby. The search on the ship is still proceeding. The letter, which was posted a* Aldershot on February 11, may be f hoax, but no chances are being taken. The .j-ship is being overhauled after bringing women and children, mostly British ex-service personnel and families, from South Africa.
