ALBANIA’S ADMISSION
CONSIDERATION DEFERRED STAND BY MR BEVIN (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 13. The Security Council decided to defer consideration of Albania's admission to the United Nations until the Council again meets later this year. Disagreement between Mr Bevin and Mr Vysliinsky preceded the decision. Mr Vyshinsky asked for an immediate decision in Albania’s case. Mr Bevin said there was a particular difficulty in connection with Albania which he did not wish to argue at the moment. On the other hand, he diu not want to record a vote against any nation wishing to join the United Nations. He therefore appealed to Mr Vyshinsky not to place him in the position of having to record a vote. Mr Vyshinsky asked Mr Bevin why. if he did not want to vote against it, he did not vote for it? This caused such a stir among the delegates that Mr Makin found it necessary to call the meeting to order. Mr Bevin repeatedly appealed to Mr Vyshinsky not to force the vote at that stage. Finally, the Council adopted Mr Stettinius’s motion postponing the decision.
