SHIPPING RATES
INCREASE ESSENTIAL RESULT OF RISING COSTS (Rec. 7.10 p.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 13 The Journal of Commerce annual shipping review quotes Mr Frank Taylor, president of the American Merchant Marine Institute, as stating that sharply rising costs _ had outmoded pre-war shipping freight rates, and. therefore, a general upward revision was highly essential. Mr Taylor expressed the view that it was highly important that the freight conference system should be maintained, and that vessels of any flag should be admitted to it subject only to their ability to provide service under tbe conference rates and regulations. The Journal of Commerce predicts that high-speed ocean travel, following extensive war-time research and developments, will be effective shortly.
