Mr H. C. Williamson will leave to-day on a visit to Auckland. Mr A. G. Elliott has taken up his duties as superintendent of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture in Dunedin. The chief postmaster, Mr E. J. Smith, will leave on Monday for Wellington on departmental business. He expects to return on Friday. . On her resignation from the rationing branch of the Chief Post Office, Mrs M. I. Leslie was presented by the staff with a hanging mirror. As the conference of the New Zealand Electric Supply Association is to be held in Christchurch on Thursday, March 28, at the same time as the Municipal Conference is to be held there, the Mayor (Mr D. C. Cameron) and the town clerk (Mr R. A. Johnston) have been requested to represent the City Council at the conference of the association. Miss Betty Mary Gentles, dietitian on the staff of the Auckland Hospital, will leave to-day by the Rangitata to join one of the four New Zealand relief refugee teams in the C.0.R.5.0.’s Greek unit, which Is at present in Australia. The position she will fill is that of caterer-adviser. Miss Gentles gained her diploma of home science at Otago University when she was 20 years of age. and her diploma o£ hospital dietetics two years later. The members of the Main Highways W. L. Newnham (chairman). M. Wynyard. W. Morrison, D. H. Cockburn, J. Scott, and F. Langbein—accompanied by Mr C. Langbein, District Public Works Engineer for Otago and Southland, and local representative on the hoard, left for the south yesterday. It is the intention of the board to make an inspection of as many roads in Otago and Southland as possible. Members of the newsroom staff of the Otago Daily Times Company last night took the opportunity of making presentations to two of their fellow employees. Mr A. Tyrrell is retiring after about 40 years’ service, and Mr C. A. Sinclair, who has been with the company for approximately 23 years, has accepted a position with the Dominion new-'papei in Wellington. The general manager, Mr W. R. Sinclair, who made the presentations, spoke of the valuable services given bv both men, and on behalf of the members of the staff he wished them every success in the future. Miss Winnie Dunn and Mr Clynton Lawrence, who are to be married on Wednesday, were entertained by their fellow members of the ICiwi Amateur Swimming Club at a social function at the Municipal Baths clubrooms on Thursday night. The president (Mr E. C. Isaacs), on behalf of the members, presented them with a fireside chair, and referred to their services to the club over a period of years. Various speakers mentioned Miss Dunn’s record as a New Zealand champion swimmer and Empire Games representative, and also as a coach. Reference was also made to the performances of Mr Lawrence in swimming and water polo and to his work as a coach. Passengers who left for the north by the airliner yesterday were: Mr W. H. Earnshaw, Dr W. M. Macdonald, Mrs J. Blake, Mr and Mrs M. Jamieson, and Mrs D L. Christie for Wellington; Miss R Benton for Palmerston North; Mrs E. McFhail and Miss J. McPhail for Auckland. Passengers who arrived by the afternoon plane were: Miss D. I. Smaill, Miss Elder, and Mrs P. Beath from Auckland; Mr and Mrs W. E. McKee, Miss D. Bradley, and Miss D. Cleary from Wellington; Mr E. Williams, Mr G. A. Oliver and Mr English from Christchurch. Passengers for the south yesterday were: Mr T. Virtue, Miss E. Jellyman, Miss S. Groves, Miss A. Groves, Mr W. M. Ings, Miss E. Ings, Mr G. A. Oliver, Mr W. Wilson, and Mr E. W. Maley.
