YOUNG PLAYER’S SUCCESS
Miss Marion Robertson headed the winning list of Otago players at the South Canterbury lawn tennis championships over the New Year by annexing the Girls’ Championship with a 9—l win in the final. She also assisted G. Pearce to capture the Mixed Doubles Championship. Miss Robertson played sound tennis throughout a strenuous programme. G. Pearce gave a line exhibition of smashing and volleying, and his performances lacked only the necessary steadiness to carry him to victory in the Singles. Mrs C. J. Rawlinson was defeated in tire final of the Ladies’ Singles Championship by Miss Adams B—6, 4—6, 4—6. O. Ellis won the Men’s Handicap Singles after a tussle with A. Scott, another local player.
