A “GOODWILL” MATCH

FOOTBALL IN HAMBURG BRITISH PLAYERS BOOED (Rec. 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 6. German spectators booed, howled and catcalled everything the British Army football team did during a “ goodwill ” match against the Hamburg Sporting Club, one of Germany’s premier football teams, says the Daily Mail’s correspondent. The British won by 2 goals to nil. Army observers were present to watch the German reaction to the game, which was one of the first major games played in accordance with Field-marshal Montgomery’s edict that sporting contests between the British Army and the Germans should be encouraged. The value of this kind of fraternisation is still in doubt after to-day’s game.
