POST OFFICE FUNCTION
In the Oamaru Chief Post Office social room on New Year's Eve, members of the staff assembled to bid farewell to Messrs W. McD. Rae and M. A. Mathie, who have resigned from the department to enter businesses on their own account. All branches of the department were represented, and the presence of officers who were on leave of absence, was further testimony of the high regard in which the guests are held. The acting chief postmaster (Mr R. S. St. John) presided, and expressed the department's regret at losing the services of two valued officers. Other speakers were Messrs H. A. Colvin (chief postmaster), L. T. McNatty (overseer), P. M. Reilly (supervisor postal branch), H. A. Griffin (supervisor, clerical branch), W. S. Holloway (supervisor, telegraph branch), and W. R. Rush (mechanicians’ branch).
A presentation of a hanging mirror to each of the departing officers was made by Mr St. John, and Messrs Rae and Mathie made suitable replies.
