LINER QUEEN MARY

LAST VOYAGE AS TROOPSHIP (Rec. 1 a.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 4. The Queen Mary has completed her ninth and last Atlantic crossing since V-E Day as a troop carrier. She will soon be assigned exclusively to bringing back the European brides of American servicemen. It is estimated that there are 40,000 brides and uncounted thousands of children in Britain and Europe awaiting transport. The Queen Mary before entering the “ mother and baby ” service must undergo extensive refitting at Southampton and will have to be equipped with hundreds of cribs, bottle sterilisers. and perhaps baby blankets, and special cooking facilities and probably foods.
