TWO CLIMBERS MISSING

LOWER PEAK OF MOUNT COOK SEARCH PARTY SETS OUT ip.A.) TIMARU, Jan. 4. Two climbers are missing on the lower peak of Mount Cook, in the Southern Alps. They are Messrs A. C. Lees and H. R. Lerthenal, both of Christchurch. They are returned soldiers, both being about 27 years of age, and are members of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club. The climbers left the Hermitage on December 23 for Gardiner Hut, 14 miles up the Hooker Valley, and nothing has been heard of them since. The weather has been bad. A search party left the Hermitage this morning, and will return on Sunday night or Monday.
