PORT OF OTAGO INCREASES FOR MONTH AND QUARTER Appreciable increases in the Customs receipts lor the Port of Otago and also in beer duty, sales tax. and the war expenses tax are recorded in the figures for December, 1945, compared with those lor December. 1944. Similarly, the quarter ended cn December 31. 1945, yielded substantially greater amounts in all sections compared with, the corresponding quarter of 1944. Customs receipts were greater bv £17.90(1; beer duty was increased by £25.392; sales' tax by £5894: and the war expenses tax yielded £432.055 compared with £386.259—an increase of £45.796 Gold tax and petrol tax produced £1532 and £31,834 for November and December, 1945. but no comparison is available since these figures were not issued for publication during the war The comparative figures are as follows;
