CATTERICK BRIDGE WINS (P.A.) HASTINGS, Jan.' 1. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club opened its three days' summer meeting at Hastings to-day in fine weather. There was a very large attendance, and the course was fast. After the Havelock Hack Handicap the Judicial Committee held an inquiry into the alleged breaking of an engagement to ride Caudal Lux. In fining A. C. Messervy £5, the committee found that, while he acted honestly, the engagement was broken through his carelessness. The totalisator handled £49,396 10s,. an increase of £14,660.
