Grill won by half a length from Montezuma, who beat Espadrille by the same margin. Peter Gazelle was fourth. High-weight Handicap Forage led Gunga Din out of the straight in the Cornaga High-weight Handicap, and Eastern Coin, under a hold, dropped back last. Forage led along the back from Pink Clover, with Eastern Coin still last. Forage led into the straight, but Gunga Din joined him. and in a good finish won by a bead. Eastern Coin was four lengths away, and Leighmond was next. New Year Trot Double Deck. All Ashore, Donald Dinnie, Daisy Gold, and Great Show was the order at the end of a-quarter of a mile in the New Year Trot. The positions were unchanged into the back, and at the far turn Daisy Gold, Double Deck, and Great Show were in charge. Daisy Gold. Great Show, Emerald Isle, and Frisky Bill were the leaders into the straight, and Great Show, wide out, came on to beat Emerald Isle by half a length. Quite Worthy finished a length away third, and Special Effort was fourth. Toomey Memorial Lyndall and Sterling Lad raced in company two lengths in front of Burberry approaching the far turn in the Toomey Memorial Handicap. Sterling Lad had Lyndall beaten as they straightened for home, and went on to win by a head with something in hand. Burberry was three lengths away. Hawksbury Handicap Avonbridge opened up a good lead of about five lengths when racing to the far turn in the Hawksbury Hack Handicap. Joy Rosa moved up fast coming round the top and, racing past Avonbridge, came on to win by three lengths from Baffling, who beat Altruist by a head. Avonbridge was fourth.
