FATALITIES DURING WAR NEW ZEALANDER INCLUDED LONDON, Dec. 30. The Rhodes Scholarships Trustees’ annual report, after stating that information about German Rhodes scholars war casualties is incomplete, says it is known that Count Adam von Troot Zu Solz, who entered Balliol in 1931, and Count Albrecht Bernstorff, who entered Trinity in 1909, were executed by the Nazis in September, 1944, and last March respectively tor coinplicity in plots against Hitler. “It is believed, but not officially confirmed, that a number of older Rhodes scholars, especially those in academic posts, were also executed by their own Government.” Three others are believed to have been killed in action and two taken prisoner. The latter included a panzer division commander. The report records that 33 British and American scnolars were fatalities during the war, including a New Zealander, M. W. Speight, of the New Zealand Army.
