GERMAN INDUSTRIALISTS
PAMPERED BY AMERICANS OFFICIAL’S ALLEGATION BERLIN, Dec. 30. Alleging that the military authorities in the American zone are pampering German industrialists, Mr Russell Nixon, deputy director in the Allied Military Government division investigating the external assets of cartels, is urging the immediate imprisonment of all leaders of the I. G. Farbenindustrie to await trial as war criminals. Mr Nixon, interviewed, said pressure had forced his department to release from gaol a number of Farben leaders after they had been interrogated. Lieutenant-general Lucien Clay, American member of the commission, commented: “ I found out about the release of these Farben leaders only the other day. No pressure came from this office for their release. We still have 10 in custody.” Colonel E. S. Pillsbury, control officer for Farbenindustrie, opposed Mr Nixon’s view declaring that until information which provided a base for substantive charges against the officials concerned was presented their fulltime services were required for the preparation of reports needed to accomplish the seizure of Farben property.
