BURIAL AT HAMM
THIRD ARMY CEMETERY (Rec. 9.50 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 22. A Heidelberg message sdys General Patton from the start had no illusions about the seriousness of his condition. He said to American soldiers who brought him. to hospital: “This is a hell of a way to have to die.” A Heidelberg message states that Colonel Glen Spurling, of the United States Army, said General Patton died suddenly and peacefully from pulmonary embolism, followed by heart failure. General Patton will be buried on Monday in the American soldiers' cemetery at Hamm, in Luxemburg. Mrs Patton and the military authorities selected Hamm, as it was felt that General Patton would have wanted to remain with the Third Army, many soldiers of which are buried there. General Patton drove into Luxemburg to oppose the critical German breakthrough in the Ardennes a year ago. The Third Army and the Seventh Army will conduct funeral services at Heidelburg on Sunday, after which the body will be taken to Hamm. Six hundred infantrymen selected from three divisions of the Third Army will form a guard of honour at the funeral.
