MERCHANT NAVY
MESSAGE TO CLUBS GREETINGS FROM BRITAIN (P A ) WELLINGTON, Dec. 21. The New Zealand representative of the British Ministry of War Transport, Sir Alexander Roberts, has received the following message for the merchant navy clubs from the Minister of War Transport, Mr A. Barnes, in London: — - . m _ “As Minister of War ’ Transport I send cordial greetings and best wishes for Christmas and the New Year from those at home in the United Kingdom to all officers and men who may be visiting the merchant navy clubs overseas and to all who help to run the clubs. We who are specially concerned with the merchant navy will be thinking of you and rejoicing with you that we can once more keep a peaceful Christmas. “We are especially grateful to the many friends all over the world who helped during the war to make the merchant navy clubs a place in which officers and men have received so warm a welcome and have found rest and relaxation. I know that that welcome will be appreciated to-day just as much as it was during the war, and we here are very happy to think that in so many overseas ports our merchant seamen, though away from their homes, will yet be among friends.”
