CEMENT WORKERS
NEW AWARD ISSUED BY COURT
Provision for a five-day week of 40 hours, the daily hours not to exceed eight, is made in the Burnside cement workers’ award, which has been issued by the Court of Arbitration. The working hours are to be between 7.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on five days of the week, from Monday to Friday inclusive. Regular shift workers are to receive 2s 6d per shift extra for the first and third shifts, that is between midnight and 8 a.m., and between 4 p.m. and midnight. The new rates -of wages range from 2s 8d to 3s an hour, and are subject to the court’s two general orders. , The award, which embodies the terms of settlement arrived at by the assessors in Conciliation Council, will remain in force until December 4, 1946.
