TOWED INTO PORT BRISBANE, Dec. 21. The R.A.A.F. flying boat that was forced down at sea 40 miles south of Bundaberg was towed back to Bundaberg last evening. The .towline broke twice during the tow, and the rescue launch finally attached a line to the flying boat’s tail and stowed it tail first. On board the flying boat were 36 men, mostly R.A.A.F., R.A.N., and A.I.F. long-service troops returning to their homes in southern States. The machine wds forced down by engine trouble at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday. At 9 p.m. the flying boat, which was anchored in a heavy sea about half a mile off shore, broke anchor and began to drift to sea. A rescue boat which left Bundaberg at 4 p.m. was forced to return at nightfall because of heavy weather. Two planes left Bundaberg in an attempt to drop provisions, but failed to reach the flying boat before darkness.
