APPLICATIONS are invited for the filling of the position of COMMONWEALTH DAIRY EXPERT, Department of Commerce and Agriculture, Melbourne, with salary classification of £9S2-£lll2 per annum, plus cost-of-living allowance, at present £4O per annum. The successful applicant will be required particularly total Administer the Exports (Dairy Produce) Regulations issued under the Customs and Commerce (Trade Descriptions) Acts regarding the quality, marking, standardisation, casing, etc., of dairy products submitted for export(b) Ensure strict observance of grade standards adopted for butter, cheese, eggs and margarine; (c) Instigate research and co-operate with research workers with a view to—(i) Improving the quality and keeping quality of all- dairy exports, including eggs and egg products; lii) Solving defects in dairy products for export, especially those resulting from defective manufacture or during storage; and iiii) Determining the suitability or otherwise of materials dsed or to be used for packaging dairy products for export. (d) Co-operate with Australian dairy produce organisations, when required, for the purpose of advising on matters concerning dairy products; (e) Advise departmental technical dairy officers and manufacturers (when necessary) concerning defects m dairy products submitted for export. Applicants should state fully their academic qualifications and furnish in detail particulars of their experience and knowledge of the dairying industry, especially in connection with dairy research and the manufacture and classification of butter, cheese, and other milk products. A sound knowledge of eggs and egg products it essential. Applicants should also state clearly their general administrative qualifications and experience, particularly in regard to the dairying industry. Amongst suitable applicants, preference will be accorded to persons with the necessary qualifications in accordance with the Re-establishment and Employment Act (No. 11 of 1945). Salary within the salary range will be fixed having regard to the qualifications and experience of the applicant.
