OBITUARY

SIR BASIL BROOKE LONDON, Dec. 12. The death has occurred of Rearadmiral Sir Basil Brooke, aged 69. During the war he became commander of the Upper Thames Patrol, which was called the “ Home Guard Fleet.” H>s association with the Royal Family dated from the days when, as a firstlieutenant at the Royal Navy College at Osborne, he gave the King and the Duke of Windsor their first lessons in seamanship. From 1924 to 1937 Rearadmiral Brooke was comptroller and equerry to the present King and from 1937 was treasurer to the Queen. He was a brother of Lord Alew^ook.
