WAITAKI HIGH SCHOOLS’ BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Waitaki High Schools' Board was held yesterday, there being present—Messrs W. Kinder (chairman), H. G. Grocott, W. M. Cooper, J. C. Klrkness, J. Rodman, and the Rev. A. Marshall. ~ .. . , A letter was received from the Waitaki Old Boys' Association setting out the proposal's for the Milner Memorial Scholai - ships. The association asked the board to select two members for the trust.— Messrs Kirkness and Kinder were apP «s decided to thank the St. John Ambulance Brigade for its services during the epidemic in sending members to the school.—A contribution of £5 was voted to the association in appreciation of Its SC Miss J. B. Wilson (principal of the girls’ school) reported that three silvei trophies had been received during the past fortnight from Miss Lindsay for athletics in the junior school; Mr, and Mrs J. hMcDiarmid, interhouse music; and Mr and Mrs H. Benson, interform music. Mr J. T. Burrows (rector of the Boys School) referred to the question of having the woodwork in the Hall of Memories treated, and suggested that the board acquire the services of professional cleaners to carry out dusting and cleaning at least once a year. Mr Burrows paid a tribute to the hostel staff for work done during the prevailing epidemic. He said that Mr J. McDiarmid had presented the school with a silver trophy for a gymnastics competition. The reports were received. Several members spoke of the untiring efforts of the hostel staff referred to m the rector s report, and it was decided, to forward bonuses in appreciation of their services. Mr Kirkness moved that the board draw up a resolution, to be read at the school break-up functions, expressing its appreciation of the work being done by the principals and staffs of both schools. It was usual for the chairman of the board to do that on behalf of the board, but he was of the opinion that the resolution would express the board's thanks more fully.—A sub-committee was appointed to draw up a suitable resolution. Accounts amounting to £9016 9s 8d for the High Schools, and £252 15s lOd for the Technical School, were passed for payment.
