Mrs Stewart Faulks, of Wanaka, Is a visitor to Dunedin. Mrs E Pollock, of Christchurch, is visiting Dunedin, and is a guest at the City Hotel.

Miss Eetty Wood, who has been the guest of Mrs J. A. Macassey, of St. Clair, left yesterday for Auckland. Mrs Dorothy Cook, who has been spending a few days in Dunedin after arriving in New Zealand from Perth by flying boat, has left for Geraldine. Mrs A. G. W Dunningham, who has been residing in Wellington for several years, has returned to Dunedin, and has accepted an organising and tutorial position with the W.E.A.

Tlie pupils of the junior school of St Hilda's Collegiate School held their annual break-up function on Wednesday afternoon in the school hall. A large number of parents were present, and were entertained with songs, recitations, and playettes presented by the children' The officers and members of the Port Chalmers Girl Guides at their final meeting for the year made presentations to Misses J. Lang and E. Coleman, who are retiring from the leadership of the company. Reference was made to the valuable service rendered by these ladies over a period of years. The Mayoress (Mrs D. C. Cameron) has convened a meeting of members of women's organisations and others interested at the Council Chamber on Monday morning at 11 o'clock, for the purpose of meeting Captain and Mrs Schoon, of the Netherlands Indies, to discuss the pending arrival of the Dutch evacuees. Several offers of assistance for the evacuees have already been received. On Tuesday evening, in the Vedic, the Jubilee Bridge Club held Its break-up party for the year. There was a good attendance and an enjoyable evening was spent in progressive play, the winners being Mesdames H. Cramond and G. Adess. On behalf of the members, Mrs C. Summerell presented Mrs J. P. L. Ferguson and Mrs G. G. Adess with gifts in appreciation of their organisation and control over many years. The evening concluded with supper and the singing of musical honours. Mrs D. Falck was the pianist.

On the eve of their retirement from the staff of the mantle manufacturing department of Ross and Glendining, Ltd., Mrs Bolton and Miss Braid were the guests of honour at a farewell social tendered to them on Friday by their fellow employees. During the evening Mr T. C. Ross spoke appreciatively of the long and valued service rendered by Miss Braid, who had joined the staff 37 years ago, and by Mrs Bolton, who had completed 28 years' service. On behalf of the directors, he presented each with a cheque in recognition of her long association with the firm. Mr A. W. Israel stressed the happy relationship which had always existed in the department, and in making presentations on behalf of. the staff, wished both recipients a happy retirement. An enjoyable programme was arranged by Mr Ansell.

Miss Gwen Rix and Miss Winnie Dunn, whose marriages will take place shortly, were met by members of the , Otago Swimming Centre and local swimming clubs at a social function last night. Various speakers referred to the outstanding service given to swimming by both girls, and it was stated that Miss Rix had been New Zealand women’s diving champion five times, in addition to winning numerous Otago titles, while Miss Dunn had won many New Zealand women's breaststroke championships. At one time she had held all the New Zealand women’s breaststroke records. Both girls had been members of the New Zealand team which had travelled to Sydney in 1938 for the British Empire Games, and since their return had made outstanding contributions to the sport in the way of coaching. Miss Dunn was presented with an electric toaster by Mr D. F. Watson, president of the Otago Centre, and Mr E. H. James, a patron, presented Miss Rix with an electric kettle. After hei marriage Miss Dunn will reside in Dunedin and Miss Rix will make her home in Christchurch.
