ANNUAL MEETING OF SOCIETY

The twenty-fourth annual meeting of the Brighton Advancement and Amenities Society (Inc.) was held in the Brighton Hall on Saturday night. Mr G. W. Bush presided over a good attendance of members. . , . .. The annual report and balance sheet disclosed a satisfactory year. Painting and repairs had been carried out on the hall, and assistance had been given to the Domain Board in clearing undergrowth from Big Rock to River road. The report made reference to the loss the society had suffered in the death of Mr W. Coutts, one of the original members of the society and late secretary, and also to the death of three other members, Messrs T. H. McLean, J. H. Walker and C. H. Young. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £lO4 Os lOd, and the surplus assets valued at £1153 16s lOd.

It was resolved again to assist the Domain Board in the clearing of lupins round the bay and to carry out improvements in the hall and supner room. Mr G. W. Bush intimated that he would not be seeking re-election as president this year and appreciative reference was made of his services to the society as president during the past 20 years. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr James Allen; president, Mr R. H. Lobb; vice-presidents, Messrs D. L. McColl and H. Rowley; secretary and treasurer. Mr J. L. Baines; honorary auditor, Mr D. M. Irvine; committee —Messrs F. Coutts, C. W. Fraser, G. Mearni, J. Mce. G. Stevenson, and J. Stevenson.
