LORD ADVOCATE GALLOPED (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 2. Following rain last night and more showers this morning, the trial grass track at Riccarton was not fast.

Palfrey was a length in front of Essay all through a mile in lmin 49 l-ssec, with Essay working lazily. Gulf Stream covered the same ground alone in lmin 47 3-ssec, finishing under a pull, after doing the first half in 51 3-ssec. Lord Advocate was much too good for Bitter Sweet and Desert Victory over seven furlongs in lmin 30 4-ssec, the last four in 52 2-ssec. Thornbridge beat Benbecula in lmin 32sec, the last four in 53sec, an attractive gallop. Nightstalk registered lmin 35sec, but came home in 51sec, while Silver Sal and Whackie took lmin 35 2-ssec, with the former finishing resolutely and anxious to go on. Sanskrit easily beat Bellg Leonne over six furlongs in lmin 20sec. The latter did not please her trainer, and will not go to .Wingatul. Liquidate dashed over five furlongs in lmin 4 3-ssec, Burberry registering lmin ssec, the last four attractively in 50 3-ssec, while Foreign Ways ran away from Pandosto in lmin 5 3-ssec. Palm Bearer and Montezuma were mates over half a mile in 51sec, equalled by Full Moon and his four-year-old half-sister. Fading Light, in company. Air Lord beat Royal Vestments easily in 51 2-ssec.
