SNOW ON FOOTHILLS Alter a spell of fine spring weather there was an unpleasant change on Monday morning, when a cold rain set in and continued steadily throughout the day. The change brought snow and sleet showers on the high country and left a fairly thick coating of snow well down on the foothills. This further fall Of snow, occurring as it has fairly late in the spring, will be a source of worry to fruitgrowers, ;;s there was a sharp frost on Tuesday morning, and whilst the snow remains these are likely to continue. Yesterday morning there was a return to settled conditions. BADMINTON The local Badminton Club concluded its season with a highly successful progressive pairs tournament played on Monday evening. There was a good number of entries and the games were keenly contested. The winners were W„ Munro and Mrs F. Evans, who beat J. Webb and Mrs E. Mitchell 21—10 in the final. LAWN TENNIS CLUB The annual general meeting of the Cromwell Lawn Tennis Club was presided over by Mr W R. Duthie. In his opening remarks, the president referred to the favourable financial position of the club and stated that the indications were for another successful season. Tlie election of offiee-bearers resulted as follows:—President. Mr W. R. Duthie; vice-presidents. Miss M. Stumbles and Mr D. Simpson; General Committee—Misses M. Davis, P. Heaney. Mrs Walker, Messrs E. .J. Goodall and W. Munro; secretary, Miss I. Campbell; delegates to the Vincent Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs W R. Duthie and D, Simpson. It was decided to grant returned servicemen free membership for their first season. The opening day was fixed for October 13. PERSONAL Mr N. F. Gilkinsou, of Invercargill, who recently returned from overseas service, is at present acting as minister of the local Presbyterian Church. Trooper J. G. McNamara, who has just returned from the Middle East, arrived home in Cromwell on Monday evening.
