DOMINION STATUS

THE CLAIMS OF CEYLON COUNCIL LEADER’S VIEWS (Rec. 7 p.m.) COLOMBO, Oct. 2. “I strongly urged Ceylons claims to dominion status,” said Mr D. S. Senanayake, leader of the State Council,, when reporting to Ministers on his visit to London. Mr Senanayake suggested that if the British Government was not Sared to confer dominion status out further consideration the island’s Ministers should draft a constitution to be put into operation without any restrictive clauses, and that the general responsibility for Ceylon should be transferred to the Dominions Office. He added that if the British Government felt that Ceylon, in spite of her war effort, could not be trusted, then a simple solution was to give the colony self-government and provide for the taking over of the administration in the event of default of the agreement.
