NOTES FROM RICCARTON

AIR ACE UNDER A CLOUD (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 25. Following some rain during the night, the weather was cold at Ri’ccarton this morning. Some useful work was done on the No. 6 grass track, but there were no outstanding trials, many of the horsew being on the easy list for a few days. Though Air Ace is an acceptor at the Otago Hunt meeting, he is an unlikely starter. His oil hind leg is causing trouble, and M. J. Wadley may have to spell him. If Air Ace does not go south, Piccolo and Deep Harmony, in the same stable, may also miss the Dunedin meeting next week

Spanish Main, who has not shown much form in his recent hurdle races, will resume steeplechasing at the Otago Hunt meeting. F. Holmes will take him south on Thursday, and R. Register will ride him.

L. Cavalier will race three of Mr J. M. Samson's horses at the Otago Hunt meeting. C H Mackie will ride Major Argosy and Lex. while A. Messervy will be on Lexia. Tire horses will leave here on Thursday. A. S. Ellis will leave to-morrow night with Weld Cona for the Otago Hunt meeting. The riding arrangements will depend on whether L. .T. Ellis has recovered from the injury to his ankle, received in the Geraldine Cup. The two-year-old Wild Knock will accompany Weld Cona, for tire McLean Stakes next week. C. B. Dawson will take Falconbridge south on Thursday for the Otago Hunt meeting, where C. McDonald will ride him. Competitor will travel at the same time and contest the Dunedin Guineas next week. . Gulf Stream has been kept to useful work since the Grand National meeting, and he looks in good order for a trip to Trentham next month.
