TAIERI COMPETITIONS
LAST NIGHT’S RESULTS
The thirteenth annual festival of the Taieri Competitions Society was continued last night in the Coronation Hall. The Rev. A Macfarlane was the chairman, and there was a large attendance of the public. The programme consisted mainly of stage dancing, but other classes included action songs in character, vocal solos, and piano solos. The results were as follows: —
Recitation (14 and under 18). Six competitors.—Harold J. Campbell 1, Merna Gordon 2, Hilary Mason 3. Highly commended: Iris Dysart, Nellie Shaw. Character Sketch (16 and over). Two competitors.—lna Douglas 1, Nellie Shaw 2.
Character Sketch (12 and under 10). Seven competitors.—Harold J. Campbell 1. Iris Stuart 2, Grace Allan 3. Highly commended: Velma Lobb, Merna Gordon. Recitation, humorous (16 and over). Three competitors.—Betty Stewart 1, Ina Douglas and Nellie Shaw 2 (equal). Tap Dance (under nine). Three competitors.—Doreen Donovan 1, Sheena O’Connor 2.
Tap Dance (nine and under). Two competitors.—Yvonne Jean Eustace 1, Ngyla Cassidy 2.
Character or Demi-character Dance (under 12). Two competitors.—Beverley Fibbes 1, Lorna Mclntosh 2. Action Song in Character (under _l2). Nine competitors.—Brer.da McGee 1, Kenneth Clydesdale 2, Jennette Orange and Doreen Donovan 3 (equal). Operatic Dance (under nine). —Sheena O'Connor (the only competitor). Operatic Dance (9 and under 12). Ngyla Cassidy 1 (the only competitor). Tap Dance (12 and under 16). Two competitors.—Rosalie Aitken 1, Ngaire Holland 2. Vocal Solo, with piano accompaniment (both under 1C). Eight competitors.—Pat Golden (accompanist, Noeline Richards) 1, Zona Astbury (accompanist, Joan Ritchie) 2, Hilary Mason (accompanist, Euphemia Young) 3. . 1t! , Operatic Dance (12 and under lb). Three competitors.—Shirley Stewart 1. June Stewart and Ngaire Holland 2 <e piano Solo (16 and under 18).—Kenneth Smith 1 (the only competitor). Character or Demi-character Dance (12 and under 16). Four competitors.—June Stewart 1, Shirley Stewart and Ngaire Holland 2 (equal). Norma Frankham 4. Sacred Solo, lady or gentleman. Three competitors.—Miss Hester Janet Brough 1, Miss Noeline Campbell 2, Miss Helen Henderson 3. Dance Duo (under 14). Two competitors—June Stewart and Shirley Stewart 1, Yvonne J. Eustace and Doreen Brown 2. Vocal Solo, gentlemen.—Mr Jack Geddes 1 (the only competitor). To-night's programme will consist ot national dancing, playettes, and recitations, humorous (12 and under 16).
