A farewell social and presentation to Detective Sergeant J. Gibson, who lias been transferred to Invercargill, was held in the social room at the Central Police Station yesterday. Speeches were made by Chief Detective T. Y. Hall, Senior Sergeant D. Vaughan, and Senior Sergeant H. Hogg, all of whom made eulogistic reference to Detective Sergeant Gibson’s work. Sergeant Gibson replied. Mr W. E. Cadwallader (Dunedin) has been admitted to membership of the New Zealand Society of Accountants with the status of A.R.A.N.Z (associate registered accountant). Messrs T. K. Cowan and F. C Tavlor (Dunedin) have been granted the status of A.P.A.N.Z. (associate public accountant) in the New Zealand Soc.etv of Accountants.

After spending almost three years in the Dominion, Lieutenant-colonel Lloyd Nickerson, special representative in New Zealand ol the Commander South Pacific, is shortly to return to the United States on duty. He came to Auckland as a battle casualty from the Solomons, where, in August. 1942, he commanded the first wave of the assault on Tulagi by the First Marine Raider Battalion. A leading authority on wool research, Mr B. H. Wilsdon, director of the Wool Industries, Research Association, which has its headquarters in Leeds, arrived at Auckland from Sydnev by air on Saturday afternoon. Mr Wilsdon's association is more widely known by the name of Torridon. With others he has been visiting Australia at the request of the Australian Government to acquaint himself with the position of the wool industry there and advise on matters of research. He left on Sunday to visit the State farm at Ruakura on his way to Massey College at Palmerston North. Stevens, from Auckland; Mrs D. T. Hayes, Miss C. Miller, Mr N. Javos Sister Kennedy, and Mrs Hazelden, from Wellington; Mr H. L. Longbottom, from Christchurch. Passengers who left for the south were Mr L. Geddes, Mr A. Pall, Mr F, Mitchell. Mr J. Murdock, and Miss C. Miller.
